The Blood Connection: ‘The Rose Tree’ – William Butler Yeats

This is an inspirational poem by W.B. Yeats. It expresses how once again we can bring Ireland back to a state of health and well-being through the selfless action of men and women performing deeds in good-faith and with justice in mind. As highlighted in the poem, only through the blood can lasting salvation and new meaning be achieved. This concept of 'blood', far from simply highlighting a component of the physical body, is rather a call to use the body, this intricate assembly of flesh, i...

‘Generation Exodus’ – Irish emigration.. it’s all part of the ‘Recovery’

As we should all know, over the course of the last few centuries; particularly the last two, Irish emigration was an altogether too common occurrence in Irish-life. In fact so disastrous was it for our nation and such trauma did it wreak upon the Irish psyche, that it is still firmly engraved in the hearts and minds of present Irish generations and those of the Irish Diaspora. Irish emigration in the 19th century - Most left never to return Yet it appears the days of the Irish emigrant, forc...

Priceless Irish artifacts destroyed in fire

A suspicious Christmas Day blaze has caused extensive damage to St. Mel's Cathedral, Co. Longford. The fire, which is understood to have started at the rear of the building, has left the cathedral completely gutted including the attached museum which housed a number of priceless records, artifacts and other artwork. Among the irreplaceable items lost in the blaze are the cathedrals stained glass windows by Irish artist Harry Clarke and most significantly of all, the 10th century cozier...

Melting pot

I do not agree with this opinion...the disappearance of nations would have impoverished us no less than if all men had become alike, with one personality and one face. Nations are the wealth of mankind, its collective personalities; the very least of them wears its own special colours and bears within itself a special facet of d...

Step in the right direction

Swiss vote to ban minarets. Of the threats to our homelands and to our European national identities Islamification is one of the most pronounced. With increased "diversity" and multiculturalism comes fragmentation, disintegration and the eventual destruction of our European civilisations. As a consequence of mass immigration, not least Islamic immigration (and high birthrates), the indigenous populations of Europe face displacement and diminishment to ethnic minority status in a not to...

Off with their heads?

The unexpected (by myself anyways) resurgence of interest in the death penalty in Ireland is interesting. Not because I believe it will actually be reintroduced, it can't as I understand it. Instead the reason is that there's a strange parting of reality with desire. The talking heads behind the European Union are quite clear that they're against the death penalty for the worst criminals and for it for the most innocent of all, the unborn. When the vote to do away with the death penalty here ...
